Several
years ago I traveled to Nyamlell, Sudan with Kimberly Smith,
President of Make Way Partners. Together we were overwhelmed
with the needs of the people in Nyamlell and especially the
153 orphans that we met as they sat under trees attempting
to get a Primary School education. There we met James Lual,
the young man who found these children. James was one of the
Lost Boys who had fled this same village 15 years before and
was fortunate to make it to Nairobi after living many years
in refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya. In Nairobi, James
became a Christian and decided to go back to his home area
to care for children who lost their parents during other invasions
that were sponsored by the Muslim Khartoum government. We
called James the "Lost Boy who was Found" because he went
back to Nyamlell and found his parents who thought he died
with many of the other children who fled. James has stayed
in Nyamlell to take care of now over 400 children through
his partnership with Make Way Partners.
African Leadership trains church leaders in more than 20 countries
and provides relief and development supplies in places like
Nyamlell. In Nyamlell, we partner with Make Way Partners to
stand with the Christians who have suffered persecution for
their faith and now need the assistance of their Western brothers
and sisters to grow the remnant of remaining Church in Sudan.
African Leadership is pleased to be a financial supporter
of the partnership between Make Way Partners, Kimberly Smith,
and James Lual of New Life Ministry. The Lord has allowed
us to work together to build a dormitory for 200 orphaned
girls, a medical clinic, a school, and a church. Now, we trust
others will join even this year to help us provide the funds
to house 200 orphaned boys.
I have been in many places in Africa during the last 20 years
of travel, and I have never seen a more desperate situation
than what I've seen in South Darfur. Many of the children
at the New Life Ministry orphanage and school
came there after they fled the fighting and genocide in Darfur.
We commend Kimberly and James for their step of faith to provide
for the "least and the lost." I endorse their ministry and
encourage others to get involved in helping to train these
children in the way that they should go. Make Way Partners
has shown the tangible love of God through their ministry
of providing food, shelter, permanent housing, education,
jobs, and medical care along with their evangelical message.
