Speak Out:
Millard
& Linda Fuller
Millard and I were
called into a Christian housing ministry starting with founding
Habitat for Humanity in 1976 and then The Fuller Center for
Housing in 2005. What a joy it has been to help more than
a million people achieve decent, safe and affordable housing.
However, it wasn't
until we met Kimberly and Milton Smith of Make Way Partners
that we realized a connection between housing and human sex
trafficking. Kimberly explained that one of the primary reasons
young women in Eastern Europe and Asia desire to go abroad
and work is so they can earn enough money to release their
family from poor housing or even homelessness. Conned into
believing they will be a nanny or make good money doing housekeeping
in hotels, they fall victim to life-threatening slavery or
prostitution or both and, tragically, most never return home.
Even if we can save
only one family from that kind of disaster, that
affirms our worldwide goal of eliminating poverty housing
that much more. I believe that all dire needs are inter-related.
The more people of goodwill can meet housing and other basic
needs up front, the less likely an individual or family will
fall captive to various evils in the world.

Our hearts have
been touched by the situation in Romania where several
generations have
been forced to live in underground sewers. Now, the terrible
genocide that is occurring in Sudan must be addressed in whatever
ways possible. Make Way Partners has a bold and courageous
program to save and nurture as many women and children as
possible that have undergone unbelievable physical and mental
trauma.
We believe that
resources are more than adequate to supply urgent needs if
only there is the will and generosity of those with resources
to make it happen.
I am so pleased
to serve as a Make Way Partners board member. Millard and
I will continue to support this ministry in any way we can.
