RIDE YOUR BIKE TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE!

Throughout the country in October 2011, friends of MWP will mount up on bicycles for a FREEDOM RIDE. We will raise both awareness and funds to protect widows and orphans from modern-day slavery. This is NOT a race, but a family fun ride that young and old alike can truly enjoy. It doesn't matter if you're 1 or 100, a riding pro or have to borrow a bike! We will have routes to accommodate every riding level.

This will give each rider a fantastic opportunity to share the story of Make Way Partners, as they seek sponsors to pledge $ toward every mile he or she cycles. START & FINISH: The Birmingham Ride will be hosted at Dawson Memorial Church, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, Alabama, 35209.

REGISTRATION: 12pm

OPENING CEREMONIES: 12:45

RIDE BEGINS: 1pm

ROUTE CLOSES: 6pm

DISTANCES: 5 mile, 15 mile and 30 mile ride routes! Riders wishing to go 45 or 60 miles can add an extra 15 or 30 mile loop.

TEST YOUR BREAKS: There are numerous rest stops and volunteer cheerleaders along the route, providing water, snacks, aid and encouragement.

EXTRA: Dempsey (pictured above in purple) is Milton & Kimberly Smith's 10-year-old rescue boxer.

That's really old for a boxer, and he's showing signs he won't make it much longer. But, even he's just got to participate.

He's forming his very own dream team, and leading his brigade on the FREEDOM RIDE in Birmingham, AL! Kimberly will have he honor of pulling him behind her bike in a little carriage since he can't peddle anymore. He's working hard with his trainers, their rescue Great Danes, Elisha and Elijah, to make sure he's ready for his victory lap!
